║ ▒▒ Introduction ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ║
╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Messager is a PEX for ProBoard 2.15 that will display little notes between
the menus. The chance that Messager comes to action is user definable, if
you enter a '1', Messager will always run. A '3' means that there 1/3 or
33.3% chance. It will display a user defined note for a while, to
encourage the user to do certain things.
You can use this PEX in order to let the user upload some more files. Or
to make him some things clear. You can see it as a passive hypenose. :-)
Messager will randomly display one of the notes. Messager will automatically
adjust the maximum number of notes to the amount of notes available in the
specified file. You can make as many .TXT files containing notes. You can
make one for the Main menu and another one for the Files menu, etc.
Messager doesn't need an .INI file to be configured. Every data that it
needs is on the data-file in the menu entry.
Messager needs ANSi to run smooth. If a you have users who use ASCii, don't
panic! The program will recognize their terminal setting and Messager will
display a text screen only instead of the ANSi animation.
New in this version is, that you can choose between three different style of
displaying the notes. There's also an option to let the PEX choose randomly.
Messager is, like all my other ProBoard utilities, FREEWARE.
The reason I made this PEX, is because there was an advertisement in
PROBOARD.029 about a PEX called InBetween. You can freq that PEX from a
Fido Node in Belgium. I've directly freqqed this PEX, but the file wasn't
there (04/02). Then, I realised it wasn't to difficult to program such a
thing my self. I started my favorit Borland C++ package and after a half
an hour the first 'quick and dirty' version was ready to test. The next
day, I downloaded that InBetween PEX and saw that something doesn't fitted
my needs. It was too complex to install with its .INI file...
So, the result is very logical... Messager, a very simple to install PEX !
I'd like to encourage more programmers to write FreeWare in stead of
ShareWare, because there are a lot of programmers (I don't write names)
who spend more time on their registration key system than the actual
program...

- Version 1.2
■ Three different styles of displaying the notes.
■ Some optimalisation.
■ Added program header when displaying error messages.
■ Compiled with ProBoard SDK 2.15
- Version 1.1
■ The reason I made this PEX is because of a reaction of the author
of InBetween in PROBOARD.029, the Belgian ProBoard echo.
■ The note files are *NOT* limited to 10 notes anymore, you can
type as many quotes as you want.
■ The definable delay has changed, you can now define the delay that
the HiWhite text is on the screen.
- Version 1.0
■ This is the first public release.
■ User definable delay.
■ User definable sensitivity (chance that Messager will run)
■ Support for ANSi and ASCii users.
■ Check if the specified file exist, if not gives a message.
■ Supports more than one file for every menu you define.

╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
■ Faster, 486/Pentium optimized version?
■ Line where note is displayed user definable.

║ ▒▒ Installation ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ║
╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Copy the PEX file (MESSAGER.PEX) to the PEX directory. Unzip the file
EXAMPLES.ZIP where you want, but it's recommended to unzip it in a
subdirectory \MESSAGER in the ProBoard System directory. This file contains
examples of different note files. Please CHANGE them! Copy MESSAGER.BAD to
the ProBoard System directory.
Make, in a menu an entry to run Messager. If you have an automated entry
to show your menu ANSi file, add another automated entry right before it.
Use a #60 - Run SDK File with MESSAGER in the data line. Add after that
some parameters until you have the following syntax:
MESSAGER <STYLE> <DELAY> <SENSITIVITY> <Path to NOTES.TXT>
eg. MESSAGER 0 50 2 C:\PB\MESSAGER\MAIN.TXT
This would make the PEX run with a delay of 50 ms and it will choose a
random note from MAIN.TXT in the C:\PB\MESSAGER directory. The style of
ANSi-animation will be choosen randomly.
If you wish, you can Edit the file MESSAGER.BAD. This file contains a
list of the users who will never Messager doing something. Enter one user
per line.
You can play some handy tricks with your user levels. You can have different
notes for the normal users and the registered VIP users. If you want to
inform new users to the use of your bulletin board, you can do it let
Messager do it for you! The features of Messager are almost unlimited! :)
You can have different notes for different menus, just enter anything you
want on the data line. Take a look at EXAMPLES.ZIP for futher information
and examples.
